[Action Advised] Changes to Hangouts and Google Chat will change your users’ Chat experience starting Dec. 3, 2020

 Your users will be able to use Hangouts and Google Chat without losing their conversations. In addition, they’ll be able to change Chat group message members.

Dear Google Workspace Administrator,

Starting December 3, 2020, we’ll begin rolling out two significant changes to Hangouts and Google Chat in advance of the upgrade from Hangouts to Chat.

• Group conversations in Hangouts will appear in Google Chat. In this new experience, your users can move from Hangouts to Chat without losing their full list of conversations. Conversely, many of their Chat conversations will also appear in Hangouts.


• Currently, when your users move from Hangouts to Google Chat they need to recreate their group conversations. As these changes are gradually implemented, the ability to see both new and existing conversations with history in Hangouts will also appear in Chat. This allows your users’ entire Hangouts message history to be available in Chat. This change will only be available for users who have Hangouts enabled.


• Updates to group messages. Your users will be able to add or remove members from new group messages in Chat. Members of group messages created after December 3 will be able to change group membership. In this new experience, your users and group members can add, remove, or leave these conversations at any time.

What’s changing and what do I need to do?

The following table outlines other features, products, and policies that are impacted by the changes to Hangouts and Chat. We’ve also included recommended actions. Continue to read on if you also use external Chat, Google Vault, Data Export, or data regions.

What’s changing?	What do I need to do?
If you delete a conversation in Chat by canceling your subscription, the conversation may also be deleted in Hangouts for all participants.	No action is required.
If you have the External Chat setting enabled, users outside your organization can be added (via Hangouts) to Google Chat’s group conversations created after December 3, 2020.	Review this article to allow or restrict your users from chatting with users outside of your organization.
If you use Vault to place Chat data on hold, messages from new group chats will be included in the hold only when the include messages in Chat spaces box is checked. More details.	Review your existing holds on Chat and determine if you’ll need to include messages in Chat spaces.
If you use Google Vault to search and export, exported message data from Hangouts may be slightly different than exported message data from Chat. More details. This also applies to Data Export.	We recommend you export both your Hangouts and Chat message data for a complete data set.
If you set custom Chat retention rules in Google Vault to retain message data, the scope of coverage will change. Rules set for All Chat spaces (previously known as all rooms) will apply to existing chat rooms, plus new group messages and group messages that synchronize between Chat and Hangouts. More details.	Review your existing retention rules and evaluate if you need to change them to retain only the message data you want.
When searching Chat in Vault, new group messages will appear in searches that include Chat spaces. Group messages created prior to December 3, 2020, will continue to be handled as direct messages (DMs) in account-based searches. More details.	If you have saved queries for Gmail and Hangouts or Chat using Vault, evaluate the queries and determine if you need to update them to return the messages you want.
If you have a data region policy enabled, the policy isn’t supported by Hangouts. When Chat conversations are mirrored in Hangouts, the copy in Hangouts won’t be geo-located according to the data-region settings.	If you have a configured data region policy and you want your users’ Chat message data to be geographically associated with their location, we recommend you disable Hangouts for your organization.

지난달 구글에서는 Google Meet 소그룹 채팅방 기능을 G Suite Enterprise for Education에서 출시했습니다. 이번에 G Suite Business and Enterprise for Education 고객뿐만 아니라 Google Workspace, Essentials, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Plus 고객도 소그룹 채팅방을 제공을 확대했습니다.

또한 소그룹 채팅방에서의 경험을 개선하기 위해 다음과 같은 새로운 기능을 도입할 예정이다.

• 도움 요청: 참가자들은 소그룹 채팅방에 있을 때 도움을 요청할 수 있으며, 진행자는 진행자 패널에서 요청을 보고 소그룹 채팅방에 가입
• 타이머/카운트다운: 진행자는 소그룹 채팅방의 타이머를 설정할 수 있다. 참가자들은 소그룹 채팅방에 얼마나 더 많은 시간이 있는지 추적하기 위한 안내 배너를 보게 될 것이다. 또한 30초가 남았을 때 경고를 받아 토론을 마무리하고 시간이 끝나면 참가자들에게 다시 본론으로 돌아가라는 안내를 받게 된다.
• 추가 지원 참가자: 이제 전화 접속 전화 참여자를 브레이크아웃 룸에 배정할 수 있다. 2주 뒤부터는 익명 이용자도 브레이크아웃 룸에 추가할 수 있게 된다.

2020년 11월 16일부터 기본 형식 채팅방이 Google Chat의 새로운 기본 채팅방 유형이 됩니다. 현재 채팅방에서는 메시지를 대화(대화목록이라고도 함)로 그룹화하고 있으나 새로운 기본 형식 채팅방에서는 메시지를 그룹화하지 않습니다. 즉, Vault에서는 대화목록 채팅방의 메시지와 기본 형식 채팅방의 메시지를 다른 방식으로 처리하게 됩니다. Google Vault에서는 검색어를 개별 메시지에 적용하게 됩니다. 여기에는 아래의 '변경사항'에서 설명된 메시지 검색 방법이 포함됩니다.

채팅방 기록은 기본적으로 '사용'으로 설정되며 이로써 조직 내 사용자의 채팅 메시지가 보관되지만, 관리자가 사용자가 채팅 기록 설정을 변경하도록 허용 설정을 선택 해제하지 않는 경우 사용자가 기록을 '사용 중지'할 수 있습니다. Vault에 저장된 쿼리 중 Chat 채팅방 검색어를 사용하는 쿼리를 업데이트하여 해당 검색에서 원하는 결과가 반환되도록 하세요.

Google Chat 및 Vault 업데이트는 2020년 11월 16일부터 몇 주에 걸쳐 배포됩니다.

변경사항

11월 16일 이후에 채팅방, 채팅 기록, Vault에 다음 변경사항이 적용될 수 있습니다.

• 새로운 Chat 채팅방 만들기. 사용자가 새로운 Chat 채팅방을 만들 때 대화목록 답장을 '사용'으로 설정하지 않는 한 대화는 대화목록으로 설정되지 않습니다.
• Chat 채팅방 기록. 새로운 채팅방 기록 사용 또는 사용 중지 설정은 Google 관리 콘솔에서 확인할 수 있습니다.
  • 이 설정을 통해 조직 내 채팅방에 대한 기본 기록 설정을 결정할 수 있습니다.
  • 사용자는 채팅 기록을 '사용'하거나 '사용 중지'하도록 선택할 수 있게 되는데, 기록을 '사용 중지'할 수 없도록 설정된 현재의 대화목록 채팅방 설정과다른 점입니다. 이 기능을 제한하려면 사용자가 채팅 기록을 변경하도록 허용을 '사용 중지'로 설정합니다. 이 경우에도 기본 채팅방에서는 계속 채팅방별 사용자 수준의 기록 설정을 준수하게 됩니다.
• Vault 검색 및 내보내기. 검색어는 기본 형식 채팅방에 있는 개별 메시지에 적용됩니다.
  • 예를 들어 관리자가 검색결과에서 기본 형식 메시지를 미리보고 내보내는 경우, 일치하는 메시지를 기준으로 12시간 전부터 12시간 후까지의 해당 채팅방 내 모든 메시지가 반환되어 컨텍스트를 제공합니다.
  • 현재 대화목록 채팅방의 경우 Vault에서는 일치하는 메시지가 포함된 전체 대화를 반환합니다.
• Vault 보관. 대화목록 또는 기본 형식 채팅방에 적용하려면 모든 채팅방에 맞춤 보관 규칙을 설정해야 합니다. 조직 단위에 맞춤 보관 규칙을 적용해도 채팅방에는 해당 규칙이 적용되지 않습니다.
• Vault 보존 조치. 대화목록 채팅방과는 달리, 사용자가 채팅방에 메시지를 전송하지 않은 경우에도 해당 채팅방의 기본 메시지에 보존 조치가 적용됩니다. 보존 조치가 적용된 회원이 한 명 이상인 경우 기본 형식 채팅방의 모든 메시지에 보존 조치가 적용됩니다.

어떤 조치를 취해야 하나요?

다음 중 조직의 요구사항에 가장 적합한 옵션을 선택하세요.

• 기본 형식 채팅방을 활성화하는 데 별도의 조치를 취하실 필요는 없으며 새로운 채팅방을 만들 때 기본 형식 채팅방이 새로운 기본 유형으로 설정됩니다.
• 조직에서 Chat 채팅방에서 검색어로 사용되는 쿼리를 Vault에 저장한 경우 쿼리 업데이트가 필요한지 검토하세요. 이러한 변경사항의 더 많은 예 확인하기
• 기본 형식 채팅방의 메시지를 기본적으로 보관하려면 채팅방 기록을 '사용'으로 설정하세요.
  참고: 관리자가 사용자가 채팅 기록 설정을 변경하도록 허용을 선택 해제하지 않는 한 사용자가 기본 형식 채팅방의 기록을 사용 중지할 수 있습니다.

이제 비디오 미팅 참가자는 질문이 할때 또는 Meet에서 손을 들어 발언하고 싶다는 의사를 표시하고 발언권을 얻을 수 있습니다. 대규모 회의에서는 대화의 흐름을 방해하지 않으면서 참여도를 높이는 데 도움이 되고, 서로 방해하는 것을 막는데 도움이 됩니다.

미팅에서 손을 올리려면 미팅 중에 맨 아래 표시줄에 있는 "손들기" 버튼을 클릭하십시오. 버튼을 누르면 '손들기 취소' 버튼으로 바뀌는데, 이 버튼을 클릭하면 손을 내릴 수 있습니다.

 

참가자가 손을 들면, 미팅 진행자는 비디오 미리보기에서 손 아이콘을 보게 됩니다. 진행자가 다른 탭에 발표를 할 경우, 누군가가 손을 들 때 알림음이 울릴 것입니다.

귀하(및 관리 중이신 사용자)께서 이전 버전의 데스크톱 Google Chat 앱을 사용하고 계셔서 연락드렸습니다. 이전 버전은 2021년 1월 지원이 종료됩니다. 올해 초에 출시된 새로운 데스크톱 Chat 앱으로 교체하셔야 합니다.

무엇을 알아야 하나요?

2020년 11월부터 이전 버전의 Chat을 열면 새 데스크톱 Chat 앱을 설치하라는 메시지가 담긴 배너가 데스크톱에 표시됩니다. 배너를 클릭하면 chat.google.com으로 리디렉션되어 새로운 Chat 앱 설치 방법을 설명하는 팝업이 표시됩니다.

새 앱을 설치한 후 중복 알림이 표시되지 않도록 이전 버전의 앱을 제거하시는 것이 좋습니다. 이전 데스크톱 Chat 앱을 제거하는 방법은 고객센터 도움말을 참고하세요.

업데이트를 진행하기 않기로 결정하셔도 Chat 데이터는 영향을 받지 않습니다. 대화 기록이 그대로 유지되며 웹 및 모바일 버전을 통해 Chat 데이터에 계속해서 액세스하실 수 있습니다.

참고: 이전 버전의 Chat이 사용 중지된 후에는 귀하 또는 사용자가 제거하기 전까지 이전 버전이 비활성 상태로 데스크톱에 남아 있게 됩니다.
